Read Across Canada
The “Read Across Canada Challenge – Home Reading Program” is underway! Thank you in advance for your support with Home Reading!
Research has shown that the best way to improve reading skills is to simply READ more! Please make sure your child reads at least 5 times a week for at least 20 minutes a session. After each reading session, have your child complete their Home Reading Log.
Students will be learning about Canada during Social Studies and to further their understanding about Canada, students will be reading each month to earn kilometers. Students will be starting in St. John’s, Newfoundland and reading to Iqaluit, Nunavut. It is approximately a 15 305 km journey, but can be reached in just 34 weeks! Students will achieve this goal by reading simply 20 minutes a day (5 days a week). At the end of each week students are to total their minutes read and multiply by 5, this will give the total kms earned. All students will be earning their own kilometers and will all reach the final destination at their own pace. Please ensure Home Reading Duo tangs are returned to Mr. Tanner every Monday so that your child’s progress can be updated accordingly.
I expect to see wonderful reading progress in all of my students this year. Thank you again for your support with this program!
